Expectations: I really didn't have any major expectations. They were actually quite low.

Reality: The package once heated and opened didn't look very appetizing. The pulled chicken tasted like a shredded hot wing. The spice was too hot for the boys, so I wouldn't give it to any kids. I didn't care for it, but my wife thought it might be good over rice mixed with cream cheese and ranch as a dip ( I  had to correct this glaring mistake ).

Final Thoughts: I will not be buying this MRE again. In my opinion, this is a lousy product. I might not eat it, even if I didn't have anything else. The MRE did not get any votes from the family, so I would call this one a loser. If you do happen to like this, I have an easy solution to recreate this MRE for about the same cost, but with more yield.

RECIPE: Pulled Chicken with Buffalo Sauce

Favorite Hot Sauce
Butter ( dehydrated butter may be used - hydrate as directed)
Canned Chicken

Start by mixing 1 oz. Hot sauce to 1 oz. melted butter. Make about  2-4 ounces to your preference. Open can of chicken then dump into mixture. Heat or microwave until it reaches 165 degrees F. Serve.

  1. The MRE menu comes with fried rice, which you gave "Stellar" reviews. Mixing the two actually resulted in a slightly (and only slightly) more palatable meal option.

I chose to mic them because the FMR didn't do a very good job of heating BOTH the chicken and the rice.

    Not a favorite...

    1. mix, not mic. ALso, the Menu option came with Choccolate chip cookies (which were delicious) and peanut M&Ms(brand name too), as well as a mocha drink mix that was awesome

    2. Ian, thanks for visiting. These reviews basically originated from the my wife and I discussing what our two young boys would actually eat on an extended backpacking/canoeing trip or SHTF scenario. We try to review at least one a week to post, and to see what the boys will eat. Your mileage may vary per each MRE, and our reviews are non-combination MREs since the variations would be astronomical and costly!

Any ways to improve an MRE are greatly appreciated for our readers. Tabasco anyone?

  2. I personally loved it for an MRE that is to say, as a meal it was alright could do much better. Thanks for the recipe as this is the hardest MREs to come by and I want to make some myself.

  3. Frank's Hot sauce is the best for buffalo sauce IMO.
