Just a Thought

If you are able, it might be a good idea to top off your gas tank, and your gas cans. You do have a few gas cans, don't you? With the Syrian crisis threatening to go Archduke Ferdinand, and the oil markets already jittery, this means you will save a few bucks in the short term.

I'll be heading to the pump to top off a gas can or two, depending on the budget envelopes.

  1. Always a good idea and with the present tender keg we have now it could become scarce at any price without a moments notice.

    1. "Scarce at any price" is a tough situation, especially when you are without.

    1. Take care.

When we go on trips, I like to start looking for gas at about half a tank, and we always top it off when we get to where we are going.

  3. Surely to God even Obama will have sense enough to keep out of that mess. I remember 911 and the good citizens of Damascus prancing around, blowing horns, and giving out little sweets to celebrate. If they want to kill each other now, how is that our problem?

Well, politics aside, I guess it becomes our problem when we can't get gas as you are pointing out. I have enough diesel to last a long time but gas is so much harder and more dangerous to store. I imagine I should take all my cans down and fill them up though. Just in case.

    1. It probably wouldn't hurt. With your round trip time and gas, I'd roll it into another trip for efficiency. It's not that I think gas will become unavailable, just more expensive.

  4. It is not any of our business to mess with that country. Oil is just an excuse to go into every rat hole in the world and waste money. Who is going to come help us when the government starts killing citizens.

    1. I believe that the last few decades of US foreign policy has been about resources, as with most wars.

  5. That is a very good idea, maybe it will happen as the refineries are switching over to their winter blend.

    1. Yeah, I can top things off now, and rotate out the summer blend when the winter blend becomes available. Better yet, maybe I'll do a little internet search for a gas station that sells pure gasoline without the ethanol.

And yeah, the timing of having a few refineries shut down for conversion to the winter blend would be great for the consumer [sarcasm added].

  6. My sister and her family, came off of vacation a day or two early from the mountains because of that same reason. Plus with the upcoming Labor day weekend, it is the perfect mix to raise prices.

    1. Yep, might as well save a few dollars and top off the tanks.

    1. Yep, looks like only an extra 5 gallons is going back under the house. $40.00 until next week for gas. At least one car is full, the other will get filled in the morning.

  8. Great blog ! Really timely post ! I felt sad when I read your reference to the whole thing going "Archduke Ferdinand" wondering how many Americans would not understand the reference now. Keep up the great work.

    1. I think that most of my readers are pretty educated and knowledgeable, since blogging is more of a mental exercise. Plus, if someone has to Google something on my site...they've learned something new!
