September Preparedness Month (11)

15 years ago at 8:46am on Sept 11th.....

Thank you to all the heroes, and a prayer for those lost.

Yesterday,we talked about planning a route from the home to our destination in case of an evacuation event. I think this one is a little more fun. We are going to find alternative routes from work to home and bypass traffic congestion spots. I'm sure that most people are better versed at this task than their evacuation destination.

Waze is a great free smart phone application to get started.

  1. One lesson I took was to always wear or have footwear that I can walk home in, because your own two feet are a backup transport you should have with you.

    1. Your feet are always your last option. Make them happy and have good shoes available. I remember when the power went out in the NE USA and ladies were walking home in high heels...ouch.

    2. I have never liked high heels and never understood why so many women do.

  2. Is that a Russian Map?
I have heard of Waze, but I would be lost there with anything...

We have GPS on the truck. I tried Waze once and was too dumb, I think. I usually use google maps.
This all assumes that the GPS satellites are still functioning and our electronics are not toast.

Be safe. I hope you all have a blessed week, K.

    1. Yes, it's a Russian map. I liked it because it had various methods to get to a location.

I really like Waze, but it does have a learning curve. A user based map that lets me know about police, objects in roads, and traffic jams is just what I need.

I'm trying to be sly and get people to think about the possibility of an EMP event with these preps. Low tech and old school will rule the day.

    2. It absolutely will. I think that is one of the main reasons the government insisted on giving those stupid rebates on older cars, and then destroyed them all. Fewer vehicles on the road that could survive an EMP, thus stranding more people in place that would have to rely on a government that could care less.
