I did another round of scouting for ammunition after school today, and I am happy to report an end to the ammo shortage. I'll be removing my ammo poll that is on the right column very soon.
22LR is still hard to find, but most other calibers were available. The prices seem to have slowly crept down over the last few months, and a few good finds were available. I was able to pick up 150 rounds ( 3 boxes of 50) of 9mm for .2798 cents per round.

Store 1:Lots of 5.56 in the plastic ammo cans |
|
Store 1: 250 9 mm averages to .3199/round |
|
Store 1: A 60 round magazine (still too pricey for me!) was available |
|
Store 2: Lots of ammo, still no 22lr though |

There were lots of magazines, but I didn't really look too closely. I would be interested in a few, like 20, Ruger 10/22 25 round magazines.
The third store is a local one, and I didn't take any pictures inside of it. The ammo shelves were full and most boxes had a two dollar premium from the old prices. This store even had a
half barrel that contained 12,500 rounds of 5.56 for $5,999.90 (.4799/round).
Let's restock our ammo supplies this time so that we can continue to go to the range on a regular basis doing the next shortage.
So my question: What are your goals before the next shortage or what would you do differently?
Keep Right On Prepping - K
Other than .44 Special, no goals. This past weekend our local Wal-Mart's ammo case was almost empty, other than a few shotgun shells.
ReplyDeleteWal-Mart had the least, so maybe other gun store have a better stock.
DeleteSame with our Walmart here.
ReplyDeleteWish I had the money to send you some ammo for the range.
DeleteOh its around here, just not at the Great Wall of Mart.
DeleteSome of it still at hysteria pricing, though.
No .22 LR at anyplace I've looked.
Thanks for the kind thought though.
I haven't even looked at ammo in months. It's about reloading season for me again though so I hope components and the like are available once again. Especially primers.
ReplyDeleteI didn't check the reloading areas. Hopefully, they are getting resupplied too.
DeleteBeen picking up ammo here and there as it was available so I'm set in many calibers -- need to increase .38 SPL/.357 Mag though.
ReplyDeleteWhat I am doing differently?
Assuming there will be another shortage and soon. This latest shooting might put a crimp in supplies again, too early to tell.
I am putting aside a set amount in each caliber; keeping some for plinking, some for emergencies. Right now I'm going for 500 rounds of each caliber; working my way up to 500 rounds per firearm in that caliber as my set aside amount.
The other thing I'm doing is encouraging others to keep purchasing ammo; even some folks who haven't bought a pistol yet. Better to start buying now so they can have some to practice with when they buy.
Very good advice for new shooters.
DeleteI noticed this week that our Walmart had plenty of .40 S&W and .45 ACP for the first time since the greal FlailEx began. Still no .22 or .223.
ReplyDeletePick up a few every time.
DeleteI was in Wally World this morning and picked up 2 bulk boxes of 40 S&w for the first time in nearly a year.
ReplyDeleteWe are putting ammo back into our budget for the first time in a long time. We'll be buying a box or two every trip to Chinamart.
