JUGM Reply To Prepper Hacks

In yesterday's comment Jacked Up Glock Mom (JUGM), here is her link, answered a comment about little known prepper tricks.

"I know!! amazes me that other people have not figured that out yet.

another unknown idea..that I have baffled other preppers with, is Crayons... I know you have little ones, so save them... In an emergency situation, they can burn up to 30 minutes.
And I am sure you know this one being that you are in the medical field , but My dad was a firefighter and on his ladder truck they would keep a nice supply of tampons...I asked why one time, and he said if there is a major wound just shove one in....."

I actually forgot about crayon being used as candles. Another use is to melt the wax, and use it to make a wax shell over cheese, then storing the cheese in a root cellar for long term storage. I'll have to further research the types of cheese that are best suited for this type of storage. Cheese would be awesome in a societal collapse.

Speaking of tampons, pads can also be used to very large Band-aid for weeping wounds. I've seen several people come through the MRI scanner that the doctor told them to use a pad to contain oozing wounds. Change frequently, and be very concerned for infection.

Speaking of Band-aids, we use a cotton ball and a piece of tape for injection sites as an impromptu Band-aid. The picture below is a variation....

Anyone got anymore tricks, tips, and hacks?

Hand Warmers Are O2 Eaters

Just a reminder that hand warmers use oxygen to heat up, and can be used as oxygen absorbents in your long term food storage containers. They usually go on sale around this time of year...

I prefer the glass jar method, stored in a dark room, that I've described by following the link. The hand warmers can be used for 5 gallon mylar bags because of their size, so use a really big jar! I'm sure with a little digging a reader can find the equivalent CC absorption rate. The paranoid can buy them without fear of government tracking and being labeled a prepper, since they "only keep the hands warm."

Which brings me to another question. What everyday products can be secretly used by preppers for other uses?

Scripture

I've already lost about half my readers by the title alone, but whether or not you are a Christian, the Bible has some profound wisdom in Proverbs. Today, I'll be looking at Proverbs 21:20 "There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish man spendeth it up."

"There is treasure to be desired" means to me that you should not be spending everything you have and saving some money. You could use another parable of the ant and the grasshopper if you'd prefer, but you get the idea. During Biblical times you either lived debt free or borrowed money from someone, and the lender could make you a slave if you didn't pay. Don't be a modern slave to the credit card companies, and believe me, I've done my share of time being a slave.

"and oil in the dwelling of the wise" is telling me to store food for the hard times. You never know when the next hurricane, tornado, snowstorm, or man-made event will make the grocery store not an option. In contrast, the foolish person spends all he has but doesn't save nor store food.

Where would you like your children to situated. Cash and food on hand or penniless and hungry? Just a thought...

Self Set Goals and Elections

I usually try to avoid politics, but this election cycle has me worried. In my election prediction post, I outlined my thought process on Clinton vs Cruz as the political end game. The Trump factor had been interesting, and I really thought he would have shot himself in the foot, so to speak, by now. Trump has drawn a following by resonating with the demographics that are tired of the political games that have decimated their livelihood/lifestyle.

It is interesting to note that both leading candidates are looking at the past instead of the future. Trump is looking back, and seeing how great America once was, while Unprosecuted Felon Hillary is looking at the "glory days" of when her husband was president. Which by the way, was largely to the credit of President Reagan passing legislation to allow capital spending by companies to be tax deductible that lead to the increased productivity of America.

Anyways, back to the topic. Before the Republican convention [July 18-21] my goal is to have most of my guns squared away. I've been ordering a bit of ammunition, and have a new rifle that I'll be getting this week. I'll continue to buy magazines for my guns, and any future gun purchases that I'm thinking of buying [using cash]. I'm trying to buy one per payday. Clinton will but a ban on all magazines over the capacity over ten. Get ahead of the curve. I strongly urge my readers to purchase more magazines before November.

Between July and November, we will be focusing on squaring away our food storage, and stocking the pantry. I'll be doing a few post on our progress as it moves along. We will also be slowly squirreling away our regular cash transactions from the bank as not to draw attention to ourselves, and increasing our cash on hand. This includes visits to the pawn shops for junk silver, and increasing our holdings of silver. If it's not in your possession, then it's not really yours. Banks can block accounts, seal safety deposit boxes, and the stock market can be suspended. Study the tragedy that continues to unfold  in Greece.

Finally, we will be assessing our medical needs, and resupplying our stock from November until January. I now need antacids for my heartburn, and the kids need a supply of vitamins and band-aids.

What are your goals from now until July? July-November? November to January?

I thought it was April Fools Day.

I was looking through the headlines when I was the title "Clinton: 'I think we have done a really good job securing the border' ".  [LINK]

Is this [adult female dog] crazy? We have so many illegal aliens that our government doesn't have any clue as to how many are actually here in the United States: Between 11 to 30 million by some estimates.

Hillary Clinton will not be among Truman, Eisenhower, and Hoover in the regards to mass deportations.

Fact:

What did Hoover, Truman, and Eisenhower have in common?
Here is something that should be of great interest for you to pass around. I didn’t know of this until it was pointed out to me.
Back during The Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the deportation of ALL illegal aliens in order to make jobs available to American citizens that desperately needed work..
Harry Truman deported over two million Illegal’s after WWII to create jobs for returning veterans.
And then again in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower deported 13 million Mexican Nationals! The program was called ‘Operation Wetback’. It was done so WWII and Korean Veterans would have a better chance at jobs. It took 2 Years, but they deported them!
Now….if they could deport the illegal’s back then – they could sure do it today..

And people wonder why Trump is so popular. He doesn't owe the political party anything and calls a spade a spade.

Home Stretch

Today was absolutely gorgeous with the temperature and humidity being perfect all day long.

We got up early and headed to Little Rock, our capital city for the Little Rockers Marathon. Our boys, Row and Red Ant, have already run 25.2 miles over the last few weeks at school in preparation for the big finish. Today, they got to run their last mile on the official LR Marathon course with over 4000 other kids (1st to 7th) from all over the state.

This is Red Ant's,our seven year old, first running medal and Row's, our ten year old, third medal. Great job!

I've also figured out a solution for crystallized honey. In another post on honey [link], I talked about the problem of having honey stored in plastic containers, and the eventual crystallization of the honey. The best method is to get the honey back into a liquid state is by putting it in a small pan of water, and heating it up. Well, the plastic that is used for most of the honey has a low melting point, and that can be a real problem.

Today, I used a crock pot and filled it with cold water until it came up to half way on the crystallized honey plastic container. Make sure the lid is tight! I lost one container of honey due to this. Put the honey into the water bath and turned the crock pot on low for 3 hours. It worked like a charm without melting the plastic!

Empty into a clean glass container and you're set for another six years! Tip: let gravity do the work for you.

We are also have the closing date set for this next week! Thank God, the house has been on the market for 8 months, and we are ready to be finished with it.
