I know that when it snows or ices in Arkansas, it is always a problem with the hospitals needing people to work. I can image how it would translate if Ebola cases started to arrive. My contact tells me that the students here can be "required" to help during certain circumstances.
I'm not really worried about Ebola since it is a spread by contact. I've included a link for those wanting to seek more information. If it spreads to an airborne type, then I'll be worried, especially with the length of incubation for this disease.

Aren't they saying now it can be spread upto 5 feet or so int he air? With such a long incubation time we won't know for a few weeks yet if the guy down in Dallas got it going on not I guess but they had 121 die in Sierra Leon today and since it seems to take them a while to die and some live that's a large number with it at any given time.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say I am worried about it but I am watching to see if it starts to spread cause if it does I am going into full no contact lockdown for a bit.
Yes, if they eject particulate matter through sneezing and coughing it is still considered contact precautions. Airborne means that it can float through the ventilation system to infect others.
DeleteBetter to have the ill at one hospital then spread over the whole state.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine that conversation now, "You are required to work this case as a student." Really? Then I'm going to require that you refund my full tuition up to this point as well as comp the rest of my education. Now as part of my tuition Im going to require that you comp me 18 dollars per hour of clinic time up to this point; Im also going to require that you compensate me for all the money I haven't been making while going to school. That should be a total of something around 80 thousand dollars by the time its all said and done. If that is a problem then Im going to require that you have a blessed day and wish you the best of luck with this ebola outbreak.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it would be hard to get most students, except the over-achievers, to play with an Ebola patient for the pay they are getting. It would be a deal breaker for me. Heck, we weren't allowed to do TB patients because we weren't fitted for masks.
Delete"Yeah, I'll just hang out in the hallway while you do this x-ray, or I'll be taking my lunch now."

ReplyDeleteThoughts?
Hubby and I are quite concerned.
Not yet, but I'll look at it.
DeleteThat's a big hospital. Our hospital would fit in one corner of the parking lot, I bet.
ReplyDeleteReally big.
