Scripture

I've already lost about half my readers by the title alone, but whether or not you are a Christian, the Bible has some profound wisdom in Proverbs. Today, I'll be looking at Proverbs 21:20 "There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish man spendeth it up."

"There is treasure to be desired" means to me that you should not be spending everything you have and saving some money. You could use another parable of the ant and the grasshopper if you'd prefer, but you get the idea. During Biblical times you either lived debt free or borrowed money from someone, and the lender could make you a slave if you didn't pay. Don't be a modern slave to the credit card companies, and believe me, I've done my share of time being a slave.

"and oil in the dwelling of the wise" is telling me to store food for the hard times. You never know when the next hurricane, tornado, snowstorm, or man-made event will make the grocery store not an option. In contrast, the foolish person spends all he has but doesn't save nor store food.

Where would you like your children to situated. Cash and food on hand or penniless and hungry? Just a thought...

Keep Right On Prepping - K

  1. You haven't lost me on this one, K. One only need look to the fact that personal debt in America has been encouraged by various entities, while the presence of God in everyday life has been stifled by these same people. Being told "We can't afford it" when I was young was disappointing, but it wasn't the end of the world. I didn't think any less of my parents. As I got older, I respected them for what they did and what they taught me. These days, both society browbeats parents into caving to the desires of those they're supposedly raising, no matter how petty; "If you don't have Halos, THEY don't have halos." 'Sorry folks, but it's the DOG that wags the TAIL.

As for "oil in the dwelling of the wise;" many think we're crazy for "prepping." 100 years ago, the majority of society would hae been judged "crazy" for living the way it does. Let society think what it wants. The way I see it, if I prep and nothing happens, the worst that can happen to me is that I'll be a victim of a full pantry...

Oh; and not being a slave to credit cards is indeed ALL it's cracked up to be!

    God bless!

    1. Thanks for the long comment. It makes writing easier when I know people care enough to respond or that I can provoke a thought or two.
