Matching Sets

Our local gunnery had a nice sale on Rugers today. Everyone in "The Compound", as my sister likes to call it, has a choice of their personal handgun. We chose the SR9c ( notice the D-shaped mag release as it means the updated version ) and purchased two today. We went the 9mm because the extended magazine holds 17+1 and the 9mm is a cheaper ammo than the .40 caliber. Cheaper ammo means more time at the range. A box of 50 was on sale for $9.99 each - we purchased the limit. These will be our concealed carry guns, which means we are going to the range!!!

"The standard magazine holds 10 rounds and features a flat bottom butt plate; a finger grip extension floor plate is also included. The second magazine features a grip adapter and holds 17 rounds, instantly transforming the smaller, compact grip into a full-sized 9mm grip."

  1. Congrats! My husband traded one of his guns last night for two guns. He has already been shooting them this morning! I need to learn more about guns. We have had a few break ins lately around town and they only get worse with the holidays coming. Luckily both break ins ended up with the perp getting shot by females who knew how to use a gun! One of them was a 12 yr old girl ☺

    1. Get some training and don't be a victim. The perp sure won't give you a break.

  2. I really like the look and feel of the Ruger SR series of pistols. A lot of people grip about the magazine disconnect safety and the frame mounted safety (which is redundant in light of the Glock style trigger system). My biggest gripe is that I really want one in .45.

    1. Most reviews I have read just leave the frame safety off, but then again it was built in the land of lawsuits and litigation.

  3. Gratz sir.

I am a big Ruger fan. I have never had one that let me down although the verdict is still out on the SR-556 as I am still trying to break it in. Not a big 9mm fan though like Shepard K above it's .45 or go home (although .357 is acceptable).

    1. I like the 9mm per cost per round, which equates into more time at the range, and eventually better shot placement. Plus, the mags hold more rounds, and I'd hate to get hit with either. LOL, I guess it all goes back to the old .45 or 9mm debate. For us right now, we need more time at the range. Later, I can pair up with a .40 cal or .45 when money permits, and we are better shots.

    2. Take up reloading!!!

Actually I say that but the truth is I actually reload less .45 brass than anything else. I have yet to find any way to keep the brass from being thrown hither and yon so I typically fail to find alot of it. 9mm and .40 are easier to find because so many people shoot it and the local LEO's use our outdoor range to qualify and leave buckets of the stuff laying around.

The number of rounds thing is kinda a pain but then again ya only need one .45 round three of the others :)

    3. Reloading will be on the to-do list/schedule, once we have our homestead acreage.

  4. Always a good idea to have "Group Standard" weapons for SHTF, no conflicts with ammo or magazines. Don't stop with pistols, use the same concept for your rifles. One other thing to consider, look at the population and base your calibers off what calibers are hot, such as 5.56/.223, 9mm, 40 S&W. Just my thoughts.

    1. It's already done. Standing Orders are: Ruger sr556 Battle rifle w/ eleven 30 round mags per gun. Remington 870 12 gauge. Pistols are personal preference but parts are highly encouraged - .45 cal/.40 cal/ 9mm only. A small .22LR caliber gun hasn't been selected yet.
