Meal Kit Supply - Another Use

Another good reason to have a few MREs around is in case you have to move. I actually do mean moving...like the entire family. We recently bought a new house, and had a few guys help with the move. Needless to say, after a long day of moving packing boxes out of one place and into another, it didn't take very long for the guys to get hungry. You should have heard the grief that I got when I suggested sampling a few MREs from Meal Kit Supply. Plus, the MREs are easy to find among the boxes. Can you spot them below?

Yeah, pretty easy. No need to stop and cook a meal. Just add water, find a spot to sit, and relax. Four of these pouches fed five hungry guys. Two of my friends had served in the military, and they were surprised at the freshness and quality of these MREs. The guys were impressed with the MREs, and I think I smashed a few misconceptions.

We tried Menu 1,2,7 and 8. The guys ended up sampling a little bit of everything except for those entrees/side dishes that were being carefully guarded. Some of the surprise hits were the Strawberry dairyshake and vegetable lasagna. Now, if the rumors hold true, and they perfect the MRE pizza, that would be an awesome feat. I'm happy to say that none of my friends left hungry or left!

The upside to MREs is that the clean up involves finding a trash bag. Now, how did we get that sleeper sofa through the doorway again?

  1. I don't personally like MREs very much and they are too many calories for me. However, I keep quite a supply of them. In a protracted power outage, family emergency, or anything else, they are a welcome and quick way to feed a large family. We also eat them once in awhile simply to rotate our stock. I remember once eating a couple of meals in the basement with the family when we had back to back tornado warnings. I was glad to have them.
We also always move ourselves. I could never afford to pay someone what a move for all of us would cost !

    1. Ease of use and simplicity are good reasons to keep a few on hand. As far as calories, you don;t have to open a package if you don't want it, plus the calorie specs are on the side.

  4. I know a fellow who works for Fema. He is selling MRE ( I don't know where he got them) for $50.00 a case with an expiration date of 2016. I wonder if I should buy a couple of cases for my kids in Cincinnati.

    1. Sounds like someone is selling Gov't property. Plus, the expiration date is subjective to the storage conditions/temperature.

    2. Yeah, seemed a little iffy to me. But the guy is a survivalist and seems pretty upright, so maybe he bought a big lot of them for himself and is selling off what he didn't need. That's what he said when I asked him about it. Getting caught with stolen government property would pretty much ruin a fellow's day.

I'm not a big MRE fan but there is a definite place for them. An emergency supply of food for my kids, in their confined living spaces, would make sense. I sent them home with lots of canned food and dehydrated food last October when they visited, but I think they need more than that.
