Make Your Guess

Today, Sweetheart and baby had their 20 week ultrasound. For those that know this magic number, it means that traditionally people find out the sex of the baby. Well, we've always been a bit contrarian in our views and decided not to find out the sex of our newest family member.

Here's the twist. Row, our 8 year old, had his heart set on wanting to know the sex of the baby. He even went as far as telling Mommy that Daddy could stay at home while he went with Mommy to the Doctor's office. Sweetheart really doesn't care on way or another, because she has her mind set that it is a boy just like the rest. We talked about it, and decided to let the ultrasound tech write the sex of the baby onto a piece of paper, then seal it in an envelope.

We sat Row and Red Ant [we couldn't leave him out] down at the dinner table, and told them that we had the sex of the baby in the envelope. They were allowed to go into their room, and open the envelope and Row could tell Red Ant, whether it was a little girl or a little boy since he can't read yet. They both had to agree to keep it a secret from everyone except themselves. They agreed, and went to their room.

Now, the make a guess comes into play for the readers. Do you think the boys will keep the secret from Sweetheart and myself, or spill the beans? I've opened a poll into the right hand corner, where you can vote.

Comments are also welcome and you can post your guess as well.

Keep Right On Prepping - K

PS - We've also warned them about Aunt NICU Nurse trying to trick them into telling her the answer! Sorry Rae Rae! I'll post if the beans are spilled.

    1. Time will tell. This is a good test as to really tell them about our underground bunker location

  2. LOL....that is too cute! They will tell. It may be very subtle but they will tell. Like what toys or clothes will they be wanting to pick out when you are shopping?

How did they react when they came from their room?

    1. They did really well. Row ran to the trashcan, and threw the piece of paper away, but I made him get it out and put it in his treasure box. I want to make sure that it makes it into the baby's keepsake book. It'll be a fun story to tell him/her when they are older. Anyways, they both didn't give us a clue. They were quiet while in the room, and stayed in their room for about 5 minutes. We really don't have a clue.

A pronoun will trip one of the boys up...my money is on Red Ant since he's a whole five years old now.

  3. They'll get so excited talking about their little bro/sis that the pronouns will slip. Little cuties!

    1. It's good that brothers can share a secret and trust each other. we are hoping that this will be a step in that direction. Agreed, pronouns will be their downfall.

  4. I, for one, have faith in them. In my short time as a Dad (Danger is 17 months, now) I've taken the view that if I expect less than the best, I will ALWAYS get it. I think they 'll keep if secret and safe. They'll have no idea who I am, but tell your boys I believe in them!

  7. my friends did that too. only they handed the envelope to a baker who was doing cupcakes for their co-ed baby shower. The baker based it off the color of the icing on the cupcakes.
If your two are anything like my two...they will eventually spill the beans, even if they don't intentionally mean to.

As for the sex, well, it would be assumed since you have two boys, that this one will be a boy. But I also had a friend who has two boys, and last year her third child was a girl... so really it is what God Blesses your family with.

This is an exciting time.. The baby is active, and that is the part I miss the most about pregnancy. Congrats!
