Meal Kit Supply - Another Use

Another good reason to have a few MREs around is in case you have to move. I actually do mean moving...like the entire family. We recently bought a new house, and had a few guys help with the move. Needless to say, after a long day of moving packing boxes out of one place and into another, it didn't take very long for the guys to get hungry. You should have heard the grief that I got when I suggested sampling a few MREs from Meal Kit Supply. Plus, the MREs are easy to find among the boxes. Can you spot them below?

Yeah, pretty easy. No need to stop and cook a meal. Just add water, find a spot to sit, and relax. Four of these pouches fed five hungry guys. Two of my friends had served in the military, and they were surprised at the freshness and quality of these MREs. The guys were impressed with the MREs, and I think I smashed a few misconceptions.

We tried Menu 1,2,7 and 8. The guys ended up sampling a little bit of everything except for those entrees/side dishes that were being carefully guarded. Some of the surprise hits were the Strawberry dairyshake and vegetable lasagna. Now, if the rumors hold true, and they perfect the MRE pizza, that would be an awesome feat. I'm happy to say that none of my friends left hungry or left!

The upside to MREs is that the clean up involves finding a trash bag. Now, how did we get that sleeper sofa through the doorway again?

Socializing for Kids

One of the neighbor kids came over and asked if our kids could play. I quickly got them dressed for the cold weather and sent them out. It's good to see them getting to know the other neighborhood kids and schoolmates. I'm feeling better about the new house. My wife and I have also met more people in our neighborhood by them dropping by and introducing themselves, it's kind of refreshing.

Another Project Down

I had to pass on my crew's annual backpacking trip to get the rent house ready. While we have made good progress, we are roughly about half way through my mental list of things I'd like to get done. The downstairs bathroom needed some attention, and I spent a good chunk of this weekend tiling.

The old tiles were removed and the concrete was exposed, cleaned, and prepped.

I cut and laid the tile yesterday, while Sweetheart cleaned, and purged a few rooms.

The grout was finished today, after letting the adhesive set. This week the toilet will be sat, vanity installed, and faucet put into working order.

I've had quite a list of project that are running concurrently. The doggy door has been finished except for painting the trim work. That will happen when the weather cooperates. The pantry door has been added and some tile work needs to happen in that room. The old wire racks will be installed until the funds become available for a bigger wooden shelving system. This is the room I'm most excited about...

The Klipsch speakers are tucked into the living room built-ins. This room needs painting before too much more can be completed. This will allow boxes to be unpacked, and items finally falling into place.

The boys bunk beds arrived, and of course Red Ant can now reach the ceiling fan, and pull chains. The fan is getting replaced with a low profile lighting fixture this week before a trip to the emergency room is needed.

The refrigerator will be here is supposed to be here tomorrow, and living with a dorm refrigerator has been an adventure, and an exercise in our Tetrising ability. I've joked with my wife that we living as Europeans. Meaning that we go to the grocery store every day. The little dorm frig has come in handy quite a few times since we've bought it, and I appreciate having not to run out into the garage to get milk for the boys in the mornings.

I may not be posting as often, but enjoy reading the blogs to my right. I'll post as projects or events happen. Oh yeah, a big announcement is coming Saturday, so stay tuned!!!

House - Boy's Play Room

The boys had two choices: Bunk together and have a play room or individual rooms. They decided that wanted a play room. Today's project was getting their play room ready. All the toys have been culled and sorted. Either trash, garage sale, or pressed into service.

Phase one was getting all the furniture and items into the play room. Quite a task.

The bookcase will house the Wii and the TV will get onto to the wall sometime this weekend (school and time permitting). The boys lucked out because the old projection TV was going into their play room, but the narrower doors wouldn't allow it. So, the projection TV is once again being used for the living room. We have been talking about getting a new flat panel TV for the living room, but we can't justify spending money to replace the 65" while it is still performing like a champ. Maybe next tax refund...

The closet is lined with 2 plastic bins and the orange container for misc. toys. Sweetheart wants to put a wire rack in the closet, so that the room doesn't seem so small.

The bookcase in the corner will get more books once we find the rest of them.

 

The couch was a donation from brother-in-law. It has seen much love over the years, but fine for the boys to jump on doing gaming sessions.

The milk crates in the corner contain homemade wooden blocks and homemade cars that their Granddad made for them. The blocks have been used for Thomas the Tank engine all the way to Angry Bird Jenga. Who knows what other purposes the boy's imagination can use them for.

The internet finally got hooked up today...after Sweetheart missed a day of work. They were supposed to leave the old house internet connected until the new house was connected. Figures. Sweetheart will have to work on Saturday now.

Anyways, I have to spend some time on school since I have 3 tests next week that I haven't even started. I'll be posting the progress, and renovations as time permits.

The Big Move

This weekend we have been moving truck load after truck load to the new house. We have 3 men and a truck hired for today @ $136/hour so of course I have been doing as much as possible before they get here. They can move the couch, boxes of books that are downstairs and other heavy items.

I have thrown caution to the wind and done some wild packing. It will take days/weeks at the new house to find certain items. I haven't really had the planning time to properly label and box each room. I'll save some money, but pay in my own time at a later date.

All of the rooms have been packed and are pretty bare. This is Red Ant's room as an example. It'll be exciting to be spending our first night at our new home. I'll post as school and time allows!!!

As most of you can guess by my lack of postings, we are very busy. The weather has been absolutely the worst for moving. School has been going good, but it has turned into a juggling match between school, moving, chores, and family. Our old house is dirty and unorganized, I have a brown paper bag to place over my head when I get out of the car to go inside.
