A Radio Update

The new radios were returned to Radio Shack yesterday because then didn't hold a charge for very long. After sitting in the window all day, they ran for about 2 minutes. A good two minutes of cranking the handle yielded about two to three minutes of low volume playing. Needless to say, the boys weren't happy about the battery life. More importantly, Mommy and Daddy weren't happy with the battery life because they kept coming out of their rooms to have the radios recharged. I would rate these radios a one star out of five. They could have been rated higher, if they had a place for AA batteries...go figure.

  1. Too bad the radios were a bust. A lot finding good equipment is trial and error, though.

  2. Luckily, I got my full price back out of them.

  3. I did a review on my little solar/crank/battery radio a while back. I have had good luck with it but the solar panel charges an internal battery and it was kinda old right out of the box. What I found was though that in the sun with the panel flipped open it would work as long as the sun did.

The crank handle is a real pain though.

    1. I haven't been impressed with any of the SHTF radios, but am thinking that rechargeable AA batteries might be the way to go in a long term grid down scenario.
